What is MISS TLIF?

MISS TLIF is a minimally invasive surgical procedure used to treat spinal instability, degenerative disc disease, or spondylolisthesis. Unlike traditional open surgeries, it uses smaller incisions and tubular retractors to reduce muscle damage.
Endoscopic discectomy is a keyhole surgery to remove herniated disc material that compresses the spinal nerves, causing back pain, leg pain (sciatica), or numbness.
Tubular decompression is a minimally invasive surgical method to relieve nerve compression in conditions like lumbar canal stenosis. It uses tubular retractors to access the affected area without cutting surrounding muscles extensively.
MISS TLIF, endoscopic discectomy, tubular decompressions

Procedure

  • Performed under general anaesthesia.
  • A small incision is made on the back.
  • Using tubular retractors and microscopes, the damaged disc is removed.
  • An interbody cage with bone graft is inserted to stabilise and fuse the vertebrae.

Benefits

✔️ Less muscle trauma
✔️ Reduced blood loss
✔️ Faster mobilisation and discharge
✔️ Smaller scars
✔️ Lower risk of infection

When is TLIF recommended?

Patients with severe lower back pain due to degenerative disc disease, spondylolisthesis, recurrent disc herniation, or spinal instability benefit from MISS TLIF.

Procedure

  • Performed under local anaesthesia with sedation.
  • A small incision (around 8mm) is made.
  • An endoscope is inserted to visualise the disc.
  • Herniated disc fragments are removed using micro-instruments under camera guidance.

Benefits

✔️ Day care procedure – early discharge
✔️ Minimal incision – cosmetic advantage
✔️ Rapid pain relief
✔️ Preservation of spinal stability
✔️ Quick return to work and daily life

Ideal for:
Patients with lumbar disc herniation causing nerve compression symptoms unresponsive to conservative treatments.

Procedure

  • Small incision is made over the affected vertebra.
  • Tubular retractors are inserted to reach the compressed nerves.
  • Bone or ligament causing compression is removed under microscopic vision.

Benefits

✔️ Minimal postoperative pain
✔️ Preservation of normal anatomical structures
✔️ Short hospital stay
✔️ Faster rehabilitation

Recommended for:
Patients with lumbar canal stenosis presenting with back pain, leg pain, neurogenic claudication (pain on walking).
